Trauma
Trauma is defined as a threatening or distressing event that overwhelms a person's ability to cope. There are lots of different types of trauma, such as:
Single incident trauma, e.g:
- a life threatening car crash
- a violent assault
- natural disasters
Long term relationship trauma, e.g.
- domestic violence
- abusive parents
- bullying
Attachment trauma, e.g.
- growing up in a family experiencing financial hardship
- having parents who had mental health struggles
- disconnection from extended family and support systems
