Resource Therapy

Resource Therapy is a trauma-informed parts-based approach to therapy.

Resource Therapy views the personality as made up of distinct parts, or "Resource States". These states each hold their own emotions, memories and coping strategies.

At times, a Resource State can become stuck in past experiences, emotional pain, or coping strategies that were once helpful but may no longer serve us. This can contribute to experiences such as fear, rejection, disappointment, confusion, inner conflict, or feeling emotionally “stuck.” For some people, these patterns may also be connected to behaviours they wish they could stop, or behaviours that are causing them problems.

Resource Therapy provides a structured yet flexible way of working directly with these different parts of ourselves, including:

  • Connect with the part of you that is experiencing difficulty.

  • Give that part an opportunity to express and release unresolved emotional pain.

  • Introduce new resources, perspectives, and alternative coping strategies.

  • Support communication between different parts of the personality.

Resource Therapy can be used alongside EMDR and attachment-informed therapies.
